MK2 Mini

The Mark II Mini featured a redesigned grille which remained with the car from that point on. Also, a larger rear window and numerous cosmetic changes were introduced. 429,000 Mark II Minis were made.

Identifying Characteristics of a Mk2

The Mk2 can be identified by the following body characteristics.

  • The grill has a more ‘squared’ grill than the rounded mk1 grill.
  • The taillights are squared and larger than the Mk1 taillights.

Lowering Mini by Cutting Down Trumpets

If you don’t have adjustable trumpets, you can lower the ride height of the car by cutting the stock trumpets down.

Cut off 1/5 of the lowering amount on back. 1/3 at the front. To lower by 1″, chop 1/5″ off rear trumpets, 1/3″ off fronts. Be aware that it takes over a week for the rubber cones to fully ‘sag in’.

MiniPedia

Welcome to MiniPedia, the online resource for the classic Mini. We will be working to add technical specifications, articles, web links and more information to the site.

Minipedia is an online knowledge base for the Mini. It is a place where you can share your knowledge of the Mini, or learn about the Mini and how to fix it. We hope to gather information about the history of the Mini, as well as the technical workings of the car. It is not meant to replace the workshop manuals, but to add valuable tips and information to the manuals.

Jacking Points

You should never jack your Mini up with the jack positioned under the body of the car. It can dent the floor, or worse – break right through if the floor is weakened by rust. Be careful using the stock jack for the same reason. The stock jacking points in the sills of the car can be severely weakened and you could damage the car.

When possible, always use a floor jack to lift the car. Under the front of the car, position the jack under the bottom plate on the subframe – below the lower suspension arm bolt. In the rear, position the jack under the subframe, never under the floor of the car.

Always remember to support the car with axle stands under the subframes, not the body! Also, be aware of the battery cable on the right hand side of the front subframe when using a jack or jack stands.
